Part 2: Squadron Relations - Gommy
When did you learn about squads? How?
SubSpace, when I was still learning the game, I was just playing in Warzone East (flagging zone) and Reaps, an OS member, started talking to me privately, and invited me to a then fledgling One Spirit, which was still learning what squads were really itself. All my education on squads was sort of on the job so to speak.

Which squad was your first? How did you join it?
One Spirit was my first squad, and I joined it because Reaps invited me and made it sound like fun. I've only ever been in OS so it's hard to know whether all squads run similarly for me.
BTW One Spirit was called Marxist Pie when i joined it :)

Describe your initial reaction when you joined this squad.
I was really glad, and very keen, as I recall, to make a good impression. I did not really know much about squads then or who were good, well-known ones. Marxist Pie weren't well-known, but it was nice to have people who wanted me and seemed gear on teamwork like myself, which can be somewhat lacking in open play.

How was your first practice like?
Specifics are hard to remember but, as I believe there were only a few (2-4) of us there. We tried to get together on a private frequency. It was nice to find out that the squad was actually being run by an English person as well.

Explain your first ever scrim/match.
It was quite impromptu for us, it was probably the first major organized scrim. It was supposed to be SWAT, Fusion, Darkslayers and Blaze on Callisto Crossfire.
We were turning up to watch, however Blaze was not there (they came later) and so we stepped in. There were no mod powers as I recall, and getting players to sequentially unspec in order to get them onto their prospective teams, in a 4-way game is not easy.
It was going quite well, we still had flags and a strong base, I was playing HW defense, and the teams started to complain as titox was not respawning. We had brought in some titox as had other teams, however we had brought more in: say 3400 and this was stopping the titox from spawning. :)
The game descended into chaos with complaints from other teams, and when people went to spec, the game collapsed. There were no rules about then and this was the first scrim of its kind, but we still got quite a bit of abuse about it, and that's what made me want to write the Gentleman's Rules.
This also happened to be my first weekend in charge of One Spirit as Peasant's Paladin had retired his duties during the week. It was quite an experience, the gameplay itself was a lot of fun.

Did you join any other squads? If so, which ones?
No, though I've had one or two offers :)

What squad are you with now? What is your role?
I'm still with OS. Nowadays, I don't have any particular role having handed the leadership role over to gambit. I just help out here and there if possible.

Which of your squads did you like the best? Why?
One Spirit, because the people in it are very understanding, and it's about having fun with friends and not just winning. The name's pretty cool too :)

What else do you remember best of your squad experiences?
A lot of squad matches. The early squad matches on TP where there was a lot of grudge rivalry between us and S.W.A.T., when we beat them in an extremely long hard fought game.
I always enjoyed just hanging about with squaddies playing other games as well, and playing in Skirm, getting a squaddie to take the tank and give you backup. Simple things like that with squaddies I've always liked and some of the strangest nonsense conversations over squad chat.
