Part 3: Present Impressions - Eikron
What zones do you play now (or plan to when they are re-released)?
The only zone I play right now is CTF Elite. If BoomBall X gets re-released, I'll probably play that a bit. I might play some Skirmish too, but only in matches.

Which zone is/was your favourite? Why?
My favourite zone was CTF1, around v. 0.70. The AR was clearly visible and fired in a straight line, everything moved a bit more slowly, and the Infantry class had a decent recharge rate! There was just a feel to those settings that I really enjoyed. Elite CTF is very fun as well, but in a different way.

What is your primary CTF class at the moment?
Infantry.

How do you equip your primary CTF class?
I use a CMP6 Assault Armor, a Suit Supercharger and a PF Generator for equipment. No Carapace for me. For weapons I use the Kuchler AR and the good, old-fashioned Incinerator. To round out my setup, I carry 20 bullet mines, 4 frag grenades, 4 rifle grenades, 4 WP grenades, and 3 rep. coils.

What tactics or strategies do you use with your primary CTF class?
I point at the red dots, charge wildly, and shoot. I throw lots of grenades, too. If I ever find myself in a 1 on 1, I keep my strafing pattern very tight and random (quick left to right strafing movements of varying length).

Have you any advice for those who just began playing your primary CTF class?
Sure. If you have money: use it. Don't be afraid to throw grenades like a mad man. You'd be surprised how many kills they'll get you. Try to corner people, and never miss an opportunity to kill a weaker utility class. Also, don't be afraid to charge around corners and break through enemy lines. Sometimes a single kamikaze unit is all your side needs to break down your enemy's defense or offense. I could write pages on tactics and strategies, but I really shouldn't. If the readers have any questions they'd like to ask me, just write them to [email protected]. I'll gladly answer in depth.

What is the biggest change from the Infantry you first played and now?
It's just generally a lot bigger. There are a good many more in-game features, way more people, and many more zones. The game play is pretty much the same.

Do/Did you participate in any other Infantry-related matters? If so, in what capacity?
I've done a number of things. I co-edited Greenrolo's Totally Unaffiliated Infantry Newsletter, as well as wrote a number of articles for it. I captained MPT for a while. I was a moderator for a few weeks before the Gamefan servers shut down (before Sony purchased the game). I'm not a mod any more, so don't bother asking for things. As a mod, I also reffed some public scrims. The largest thing I've worked on is probably the Infantry Dueling League, which I essentially built from the ground up (with help from Alastria, Slipstream, Yazour, and all my referees). I've helped Ucross with the Skirmish League (SL), and I'll be working as a predictor for SL matches in the future.

What is your most memorable experience in Infantry?
I can't really name one moment as the most memorable, since they all seemed very important at the time. Some moments that were very memorable include: beating both EBB and JakeM for the first time in dueling (both EBB and JakeM are tremendous duelers, and I fought hard for my victories), being given mod powers, and beating Shadow Syndicate with KR. There are many more.

If you could change one thing about Infantry, what would it be?
I'd like to see an influx of MENSA alumni entering the Infantry community. The average level of intelligence seems to get a bit low sometimes (especially with zc321's wonderful idiomatic contributions - agred). Not to say that the people who play Infantry are dumb, but they sure can act that way. Oh yeah, and I'd also like to be able to see my bullets in CTF.

What would you rate Infantry on a scale of 1-100 right now?
Probably about 80. The game is very fun, but the graphics still suck.
